Andromeda is a constellation that was already part of the 48 constellations documented by the Greek astronomer Ptolemy and is now one of the 88 modern constellations.

Andromeda was in Greek mythology the daughter of Cassiopeia and Cepheus, kings of Ethiopia. She was also known as Persea (wife of Perseus) or Cepheis (daughter of Cepheus). The figure of Andromeda plays an important role in the myth of Perseus. According to this Greek myth, Queen Cassiopeia boasted that her daughter Andromeda was more beautiful than the Nereids, the beautiful nymphs who lived at the bottom of the sea. Because of her insolence, the Nereids asked the god Poseidon for revenge. Poseidon sent the monster Cetus to destroy the kingdoms of Cassiopeia and Cepheus. Cepheus asked the Oracle of Amon for help and the Oracle told him that to save his kingdom he would have to sacrifice his daughter Andromeda to appease the monster.

Andromeda was tied to a rock near the sea and offered to Cetus. According to the myth, the hero Perseus appeared to defeat the monster and rescued her. Perseus and Andromeda married and had nine children.

After Andromeda’s death, the goddess Athena placed her in the sky and turned her into a constellation. It is for this reason that the constellations related to the myth of Perseus are placed around her: Cassiopeia, Perseus, Cepheus and Cetus (also known as the constellation of the Whale).

Baby alpaca with silk yarn

Baby alpaca yarn comes from the first shearing and is even softer than normal alpaca wool. It is very warm, warmer than sheep wool, it does not itch, it is strong and hypoallergenic. It is perfect for knitting baby clothes.

Because it has so good properties, the clothes you knit with it will have a better quality than even cashmere and mohair.  The garments last for many years due to the resistance of the fibre.

Why does alpaca yarn does not produce allergies? Because it does not contain lanolin, so it is perfect for people who have very delicate skin. It also has a low water absorption, so it does not suffer from deformations.

Of course, just like sheep’s wool, it is flame retardant, which means it is fire resistant.

How to block alpaca and silk yarn?

In our experience, it is enough to stretch the garment and pin it on a mat (or any surface that allows it), spray it with water and a few drops of your favourite essential oil or perfume for wool using a spray bottle and soak it well and then wait until it is perfectly dry to remove it. You can use in this step our perfume for yarn.

How to care for alpaca garments?

Hand wash:

Put in water, leave to soak and apply neutral soap. Rub gently and rinse with new water.

To remove excess water, open a towel, put the garment on top and roll it up without tightening. DO NOT STRESS as you may deform the garment.

Dry in the shade (to keep the colours longer) and horizontally.

Sustainability: Beautiful yarns…

…that take care of your health… Synthetic fibres do not allow the skin to breathe and make it irritate, and many of them are petroleum products that have been dyed with dyes containing heavy metals and other toxic substances. Natural fibres, however, allow the skin to ventilate while protecting against the cold and insulating against heat.

… and the environment… Alpaca, being a natural fibre, is made using more environmentally friendly techniques. It is also 100% biodegradable.

In addition, alpaca fibres from Peru, such as these, are fair trade fibres. This means that higher (fair) prices are offered to the producers so that they can produce under better conditions, the situation of the workers is also taken care of and the improvement of their conditions is sought.
