What is peace silk?

Silk that is called peace silk is processed without killing the silkworm. This silk is also called Ahimsa silk. The moths leave the cocoon and then the cocoons are harvested for spinning.

What is Eri silk?

Eri silk is a staple fibre, unlike other silks, which are continuous filament. The weave texture is coarser and denser. It is very strong, durable and elastic. Eri silk is darker and heavier than other silks and combines well with yarn and cotton. Due to its thermal properties, it is warm in winter and cool in summer.

Buddhist monks in India, Bhutan, Nepal, China and Japan prefer this silk because of its non-violent origin.

In India, eri was used mainly for making winter shawls for men and women. The thermal properties of eri silk make it a suitable fabric for shawls, jackets, blankets and bedspreads. Garments and dresses for babies are also made from eri silk fabric because of its soft texture and moisture absorbing qualities.

Eri silk is durable and strong and has a typical texture, which is why it is widely used in home furnishing, such as curtains, bed covers, cushion covers, wall hangings, bedspreads, etc. Its woolly feel enhances comfort.

Eri silk products are promoted as eco-friendly and natural, and provide employment and money to the tribal people who practice the Eri culture.

The production of eri silk in India during 2007-2008 was 1,530 tonnes. This was 73% of the total wild silk production of 2,075 tonnes.

How to block eri silk?

Although one of the strongest natural fibres, it loses up to 20% of its strength when wet and its elasticity is moderate to low. Therefore, you should handle wet silk with great respect and care.

Spray your work with water and our yarn perfume.

When blocking, do not stretch the silk too much, so that it does not break, as stretching can weaken the yarn or damage the fibre.
You should not dry silk projects in direct sunlight, it can weaken if exposed to too much sunlight.

READ ME. Important information:

You should be aware that artisan dyeing is not like industrial dyeing. Batches are small, and the intensity and distribution of colours may vary from one skein to another. If you need the skeins to be from the same dye lot and as similar as possible, please write this in the order notes to take this into account.

It is also important to know that the colours may look different on each screen and that the mix and distribution of colours you receive may differ from the photo because no two skeins are exactly the same.

In any case, no worries! because if when you receive the skeins they are not what you expected, we will start the return process without a problem and at no cost to you.

Washing recommendations:

Hand wash in water at a temperature below 30º with a neutral soap. Dry the garment horizontally to avoid deformation.
