Do you know the origin of the scarf?
It dates back to Ancient Rome and its predecessor was called sudarium . It was used to remove sweat from the forehead on very hot days, and was worn hanging from the belt or around the neck during the working day. It took a long time from the sudarium to the scarf, when it was adopted by the upper classes as an accessory.
In ancient China, however, the wool scarf was used to distinguish the members of its army, that is, to identify the different ranks of the military.
It was the English who gave the wool scarf its present form, but the name is believed to have originated in French.

How many balls do I need to knit a scarf?
The number of balls of wool you will need to knit a wool scarf can vary depending on the thickness of the wool, the size and the pattern you choose. However, we can give you a general estimate.
On average, to knit a basic medium sized scarf, you will need about 2 to 3 balls of wool. This is assuming that each ball has approximately 100 grams of wool and 200-300 meters.
It is important to note that if you want to add more complicated patterns, increase the size of the scarf or use a thicker yarn, you may need more balls. In addition, if you want to make a longer or wider scarf, you will also require a larger amount of yarn.
I would recommend that you consult the specific pattern you wish to follow and check the yarn directions for that particular pattern. This will give you a better idea of the number of balls of wool you will need to knit your scarf. If you have any questions, write to us!
How to make scarves of thick wool
To make fat wool scarves, you will need the following materials:
Thick wool: Choose a thick or super-thick wool, such as Lacerta. You can find this type of wool in our store by filtering by coarse wool.
Knitting needles: Use knitting needles of the appropriate size for the wool you have chosen. Thicker needles will work better with fat wool.
Below, we share with you a basic guide to knitting a fat wool scarf:
Start by making a slip knot at the end of the yarn and place it on one of the needles.
Knit a number of stitches on the needle that is a multiple of 2. The amount will depend on the desired width of your scarf.
Begin by knitting in 1×1 or 2×2 stockinette stitch alternating a purl stitch (inserting the needle from right to left in front of the stitch) and a purl stitch (inserting the needle from right to left behind the stitch). This technique will create a stiffer elastic edge that will prevent the scarf from curling up.
Continue knitting in ribbing stitch or change to stockinette stitch when you consider during the desired length of your scarf. You can measure it by stretching it to make sure it is the length you want.
To finish the scarf, cut the wool leaving enough room to make a knot in the last stitch. Pull gently to tighten the knot and secure the wool.
Remember that this is a basic guide and you can adjust it according to your preferences and creativity. You can also experiment with different knitting stitches or add embellishments such as fringe at the ends of the scarf.
Have fun knitting your fat wool scarf!
