Fibers for summer knitting
In summer, it is advisable to use cooler and lighter fibers that allow adequate ventilation and do not retain heat as much. Some of the best options are:
Cotton: Cotton is a natural fiber that is breathable and very comfortable to wear in summer. It is lightweight, soft and sweat absorbing, making it ideal for summer clothing pieces such as tops, t-shirts, dresses and shawls.
Linen: Linen is another natural material that is ideal for summer knitting. It is very cool, breathable and wicks moisture quickly, making it an excellent choice for jackets, blouses, lightweight pants and tops.
Bamboo: Bamboo is a fiber with properties similar to cotton. It is soft, breathable and highly resistant to UV rays, making it ideal for pieces that will be used in outdoor environments. The problem with bamboo is that it is difficult to find in its natural, unprocessed form. What you will find in other stores is bamboo viscose, and we do not work with this fiber.
Silk: While silk is not a fiber commonly associated with summer, it can be an excellent choice for light and cool fabrics. Silk is very soft, breathable and cool, making it a good choice for summer blouses and dresses.
- Wool: don’t be surprised, wool options blended with cotton or silk can be an excellent choice for in-between seasons, in cool climates or for special occasions.
It is important to remember that everyone has different preferences and sensitivities to different fibers, and that some types of fabrics may be more comfortable for some people than others. The best thing to do is to try them out and find the one that best suits your needs.
Knitting and wearing wool in summer
Wool has some benefits as a summer fabric:
Sun protection: Wool has a natural ability to block UV rays and protect the skin from the sun. It is for this reason that it is common to see shepherds and farm workers dressed in woolen garments during the summer.
Breathability: Although wool can be warm, it has an exceptional ability to absorb moisture and facilitate perspiration through its natural fibers. To facilitate this, it is advisable to knit summer garments with fine wool and large needles, allowing the stitches to be more open.
Style and elegance: Wool is one of the most elegant and sophisticated fibers and can be used for light and comfortable summer fabrics. Wool garments made with interesting patterns and vibrant colors can add a touch of style and sophistication to your outfit.
